Robert's Time In Iraq | |
To My Family and Friends, Hello Again! Well let's get the weather talk out of the way right away... the highs are around 58ºF and the lows are around 30ºF. It has been raining on and off, but no snow yet. It did snow 1 day last year... so we will see.
In between the rain we had crystal clear night skies. A few of the nights decorated with a crescent moon and two very bright planets. It was breath taking.
Since Thanksgiving, Advent has flown by... which I guess is a good thing... 1 more month down. I was able to purchase an 18" Christmas tree from the base exchange. So, I do have a little touch of Christmas in my room with gifts under the tree that Davina and Corinne sent me. There is a Christmas tree at the chapel and little ones in the offices... but, not many holiday lights hanging around base. Basically, there is a partial sense of Christmas on base but not a complete one. What is missing is our families... Christmas is about families. To fill the void we all try to be there for each other... but we look forward to the day when we are home with our loved ones.

Christmas dinner consisted of Mexican food. However, they did decorate the Dining Facility with decorations that were more American this time. Midnight mass was nice. We actually had a choir... it did not include me... Davina and Corinne are the musically inclined ones in the family. For the opening of gifts, Davina and I opened ours via a webcam... she got me a digital picture key chain to put photos of the family on. When Corinne opened her gifts, I listened via phone... I really wish I could have been there. Next year will be different. On another note I caught my fourteenth mouse in my office! As it gets colder outside they are trying to come inside. We have plugged many of the holes to the outside... but they keep finding a way in. The numbers are slowing down though... As always, thanks for your support and I will write more next month. God bless and take care, Robert
