Halloween was so much fun this year with Corinne old enough to enjoy all of the preparation and parties and, of course, trick-or-treating. She chose a fun clown/hobo costume this year and fit the part quite well. Robert and Corinne picked out two big pumpkins for carving. Corinne enjoyed designing the faces for the pumpkins, but wasn’t too keen about cleaning out the insides of the pumpkins. We put the finished jack-o-lanterns on the patio where we could see them and enjoy them.
The festivities started with a Halloween party at our Mom and Tot playgroup. All of the children (and some parents) dressed up and we had a grand feast. The kids all looked so cute. That night we enjoyed a Halloween party with Robert’s office at the roller skating rink on base. It was Corinne’s first try at roller skating. She had fun and did quite well. There were games and activities for the kids as well as trick-or-treating around the rink. Corinne came home with lots of candy and a big smile.
On the day of Halloween we went on a short family hayride that took us to some fun activities including a bouncy castle, face painting, and arts & crafts. In the evening we met Robert’s cousin Kelly Frutchey and her boyfriend Marian on base to take Corinne trick-or-treating around base housing. Two quick notes: 1) Kelly arrived in Germany in October to be with her boyfriend who recently returned from Iraq. We’re glad to have her in the area. 2) We took Corinne trick-or-treating on base because the Germans don’t trick-or-treat in our neighborhood. Back to trick-or-treating … Corinne quickly figured out the concept of getting candy for being cute. The housing area we went through was really friendly and full of people we knew as well. After trick-or-treating we went to the youth center for more bouncy castle and face painting fun. Throughout the evening we enjoyed catching up with Kelly and Marian. It was a great Halloween!
