Over Columbus Day weekend we enjoyed a trip to the beautiful city of Prague in the Czech Republic. It was an easy 6 hour drive from home on roads that reminded us of the interstates in the US – only smoother. The city was able escape the bombings of the last century's wars and despite 40 years of Communism capitalism was alive and well – McDonalds, Starbucks, Subway …
We toured the city on foot and saw the centuries-old Prague Castle on the hill which overlooks the city, the famous Old Town square where we enjoyed some local delights from the food booths, the Charles Bridge, and the stunning architecture all around. We also enjoyed the beautiful old churches and the winding alleys. Everywhere we went there were strolling musicians, singers, and dancers. Of course no trip would be complete without shopping for the Gills, so we did plenty of that too.
One evening we took a dinner cruise on the Vltava River that flows through Prague. There was a jazz combo on board to entertain us. Corinne spent most of the evening dancing to their music. She was truly their biggest fan. The city and the castle were pretty lit up at night. Our pictures do not do them justice.
On the last day before heading home we spent some time at the Shrine of the Infant of Prague in the Church of Our Lady of Victory. It was a beautiful church and it meant so much to visit since so many people have a special devotion to the Infant of Prague. Overall, we had a great time on our trip to Prague and would love to go back to see even more next time!
